Origin: Lake Malawi, Africa. Specifically found in the northern and central regions of the lake.
Size: Typically grows to about 4 to 6 inches (10 to 15 cm) in length.
Lifespan: 8 to 10 years in captivity.
Diet: Omnivorous, feeding on a variety of foods including algae, small invertebrates, and plant matter. In aquariums, they can be fed a mix of high-quality cichlid pellets, flakes, and occasional live or frozen foods like brine shrimp and bloodworms.
Behavior: Copadichromis borleyi are generally peaceful and can be kept in community tanks with other peaceful cichlids and fish of similar size. They are known for their vibrant colors and active swimming patterns.
Water Parameters: Prefer a pH range of 7.5 to 8.5, a temperature range of 76°F to 82°F (24°C to 28°C), and hard water.
Breeding: Copadichromis borleyi are mouthbrooders. The female lays eggs, which she then picks up and carries in her mouth until the fry are fully developed, typically around 21 to 28 days.
Tank Setup: A well-maintained aquarium with a sandy substrate, plenty of rocks, and caves for hiding and spawning is ideal. They also benefit from open swimming areas and some plant cover.
Compatibility: Compatible with other peaceful cichlids and fish of similar size. Avoid keeping them with overly aggressive species that might stress or harm them.
