The Endler Guppy - Poecilia wingei Mixed Selection 1cm

from £3.85

The Poecilia wingei, commonly known as Endler's Livebearer or the Endler Guppy, is a vibrant freshwater species native to the Paria Peninsula in Venezuela.

Often confused with the common Guppy, Endlers are distinct for their smaller size and intense, metallic colouration that appears almost neon under aquarium lighting.

Males are living jewels, displaying psychedelic patterns of electric orange, lime green, and black on bodies reaching just 2-2.5 centimetres, whilst females are larger, plumper, and typically a uniform silver or gold.

Their diminutive size and energetic nature make them perfect candidates for nano aquariums and planted tanks, where their colours contrast beautifully against green foliage.

These active livebearers are incredibly peaceful and thrive in groups, occupying the upper levels of the aquarium.

They are prolific breeders, with females giving birth to live fry every 23-24 days, though unlike common guppies, Endlers rarely eat their own young, allowing colonies to grow naturally.

They coexist beautifully with other peaceful nano species such as small Rasboras, Corydoras, and freshwater shrimp.

Omnivorous and unfussy, they require high-quality micro-pellets or crushed flakes, supplemented with small live or frozen foods like daphnia and baby brine shrimp.

It is important to note that they will readily hybridise with common Guppies (Poecilia reticulata), so they should be kept separately if you wish to maintain pure strains. With proper care, these hardy little fish typically live 2-3 years.
