Emperor Tetra - Nematobrycon palmeri 2-3cm

The Nematobrycon palmeri, widely known as the Emperor Tetra, is a graceful and characterful shoaling fish native to the slow-flowing rivers and tributaries of the Atrato and San Juan basins in Colombia. True to its name, the Emperor Tetra carries itself with a quiet majesty, its iridescent body shifting between subtle shades of blue, purple, and gold as it moves through the water. Males develop an elongated, trailing dorsal and caudal fin that lends them a particularly regal silhouette, while their deep-set eyes, often with a striking blue or purple iris, add an unmistakable air of refinement. Growing to around 5 centimetres in length, they are well suited to peaceful community aquariums where their composed demeanour and elegant finnage make them a firm favourite amongst aquarists seeking a fish with both presence and poise.

Compatibility: Generally peaceful and best kept in groups of at least 6 individuals. They coexist happily with other small, peaceful species and display their most natural and confident behaviour when kept in a shoal.

Ideal Substrate: Fine sand or smooth, rounded gravel. They appreciate a well-planted aquarium with gentle flow, where they can move through the midwater with ease.

Diet: Omnivorous; they will readily accept a variety of foods including high-quality flake and micro pellets, supplemented with live and frozen fare such as daphnia, bloodworms, and brine shrimp to maintain their vivid colouration.
