The Elephant Ear Guppy, also called the Dumbo Ear or Big Ear Guppy, is a selectively bred fancy strain of the common guppy (Poecilia reticulata). Its defining feature is a pair of dramatically enlarged pectoral fins that fan out from either side of the body like elephant ears, giving the fish a graceful, gliding appearance as it swims +1. The trait is caused by the "kalymma gene" and comes in many colour strains including mosaic, dragon, koi and albino . Males are smaller but far more colourful than females, with bright body colouration, showy tails and the characteristic oversized pectoral fins . The strain is entirely captive-bred and does not occur in nature .
