Scientific Name: Aulonocara sp. (hybrid)

Common Name: Strawberry Peacock Cichlid, Strawberry Sunburst Peacock

Family: Cichlidae

Origin: A captive-bred hybrid developed from Lake Malawi peacock cichlid stock; not found in the wild.

Size: Typically grows to about 4 to 7 inches (10 to 18 cm) in length.

Lifespan: 6 to 8 years in captivity.

Diet: Omnivorous. In aquariums, they can be fed a mix of high-quality cichlid pellets, flakes, and occasional live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp and bloodworms.

Behavior: Semi-aggressive, particularly towards other males of similar colour. Generally peaceful when kept with dissimilar species, though more territorial than most pure-bred peacocks due to their hybrid genetics.

Water Parameters: Prefer a pH range of 7.5 to 8.5, a temperature range of 74°F to 82°F (23°C to 28°C), and hard, alkaline water.

Breeding: Maternal mouthbrooders. The female lays eggs, which she then picks up and carries in her mouth until the fry are fully developed, typically around 21 to 28 days.

Tank Setup: A well-maintained aquarium with a sandy substrate, plenty of rocks, and caves for hiding and spawning is ideal. They also benefit from open swimming areas.

Compatibility: Compatible with other peaceful cichlids and fish of similar size. Best kept with other peacocks and Haps; avoid overly aggressive species as well as timid fish that may be bullied.
